To showcase Hungary's deeply rooted wine heritage, we will be tasting some of the iconic wines from the famous Tokaj region in northeastern Hungary. Tokaj’s volcanic soil and native grape varieties such as Furmint offer a variety of flavors, capturing the essence of different wines. This multi-layered profile makes Tokaji not just a wine but an experience, inviting you to savor its evolving character with every sip.
Furmint is to Tokaj what Riesling is to Germany, Chardonnay to Burgundy, and Grüner Veltliner to Austria. Yet, it unites them all, conveying the minerality and acidity of Riesling, the body and fruitiness of Chardonnay, and the smooth texture and elegance of Grüner Veltliner within a single grape. Furmint is also the grape that produces Aszú, the sweet wine once known as the "King of Wines, Wine of Kings" Aszú is a story of its own, and we have many tales to share about this truly unique wine.
"My love and admiration for the wonders of nature inspired me to become a farmer and winemaker. My goal is to preserve and continue the traditional, artisanal winemaking of Tokaj, free from chemicals and additives" – Zoltan Menessy, Menessy Winery.
