Who invented 'Training from the BACK of the Room'?

Sharon L. Bowman is the creator of the Training from the BACK of the Room (TBR) methodology. She is the president of Bowperson Publishing & Training and has authored seven widely recognized books on training and learning. With over 40 years of experience as a professional speaker, author, teacher, and trainer, Sharon specializes in helping educators and businesses design engaging, brain-friendly learning experiences.

Sharon describes her work as: “I teach teachers how to teach, and trainers how to train.” She is celebrated for her energetic, hands-on approach, which keeps learners actively involved from start to finish. Her workshops are practical, memorable, and fun, reflecting the principles she teaches. Over 70,000 copies of her books have been sold, solidifying her influence in the field. Her flagship two-day Training from the BACK of the Room course is a global favorite among agile coaches and trainers for its focus on interactive, learner-centered training design. Since October 2020, a virtual edition of the class has also been available, co-created by Julian Kea. This version extends the reach of TBR principles, enabling trainers to deliver impactful virtual learning experiences.
