About the event

At the end of the Second World War, thousands of prisoners in German concentration camps were rescued to the Scandinavian Countries. The White Buses are the best-known of the rescue operations. The memory of this effort became an important building block in the construction of a heroic national narrative. In relation to the outside world, the White Buses became a Swedish national symbol of a good society.


As research into Sweden's role during the Second World War has gained increased interest, knowledge of the White Buses has also expanded. Our understanding of the rescue action has deepened, while also becoming more complex.

Die Schwedische Botschaft in Berlin ist Schwedens offizielle Vertretung in Deutschland. Die Botschaft liegt in einem gemeinschaftlichen Komplex mit den übrigen Nordischen Botschaften in Berlin-Tiergarten. Das Felleshus, das gemeinsame nordische Kultur- und Veranstaltungslokal ist täglich für Besucher*innen geöffnet.

Zu den Aufgaben der Schwedischen Botschaft gehört es, über die politischen Prioritäten Schwedens zu informieren, schwedische Kultur in Deutschland zu fordern und die wirtschaftlichen Verbindungen zwischen beiden Ländern zu stärken.

The Embassy of Sweden in Berlin is Sweden's mission in Germany and serves as the official link between Sweden and Germany. It is located in Tiergarten in Berlin together with the other Nordic countries. The Embassy complex consists of six architecture buildings – one Embassy building for each country and one joint house for events and exhibitions called Felleshus.

One key focus for the Embassy is to inform about Sweden’s political priorities, promote Swedish culture and strengthen trade and business relations with Germany, which has a special position as Sweden´s largest export market.
