About this event
- Event lasts 2 hours
After migrating to Berlin, following certain steps can ensure a smooth and safe integration into the city’s dynamic culture. Multidisciplinary artist Thomas Diafas explores this process in his new work, "Integration," by creating wearable art that doubles as a guide for newcomers. The steps he highlights include registering at the local Bürgeramt, securing health insurance, and opening a bank account—essential steps for establishing residency. Diafas also emphasizes the importance of learning German to navigate the city effectively and engaging with local communities and organizations that offer free support to migrants.
Drawing from his own experiences, Diafas connected with key organizations and individuals during his first year in Berlin, which helped him overcome the challenges posed by German bureaucracy. "Integration" aims to ease this journey for others by fostering a supportive network and raising awareness of the complex realities migrants face. Through t-shirts and tote bags that outline these crucial steps and resources, Diafas not only provides practical guidance but also encourages reflection on the hidden dynamics of personal adaptation. The culmination of this project will be showcased in a fashion show, inviting participants to document and share their unique narratives of integrating into Berlin’s vibrant landscape.
