About this event

On Saturday 9th November, 20:00-23:30, we invite you to an astronomical evening of live, interactive performances that explore our connections to the cosmos and the human quest for knowledge of the universe. The performances combine cutting edge scientific research with music, storytelling, and illusionism to imagine the unseen and question the intangible.

20:00 - 21:00 | Spells: A Journey Through Art, Cosmos, and Collective Experience | Nahum

Starting here on Earth, composer and multi-instrumentalist, Nahum will explore humanity's connection with the Cosmos. Through storytelling, out-of-body experiences, and video art, Spells traces the ways in which cultures have engaged with the stars. The performance critiques contemporary approaches to space, revealing how they often mirror the mistakes we have made on Earth. Spells includes a guided trance that will take you on a journey through time and space. Join Nahum to envision an alternative future rooted in a more harmonious relationship with the universe.

22:00 - 23:30 | Deciphering Black Hole Symphonies: The New World of Gravitational Wave Astronomy | Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics

How do we detect the intangible? How can we conceptualise black holes and gravitational waves? Join the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics audiovisual artist Leon Trimble to explore these cosmic mysteries and discover their connection to electronic music.

The groundbreaking discovery of gravitational waves revolutionised the field of astrophysics and theoretical physics. Inspired by this monumental breakthrough, Leon Trimble created The Gravity Synth, an innovative electronic musical instrument that combines the technology used in the detection of gravitational waves with a modular synthesiser. A live musical performance of the Gravity Synth will be followed by lightning talks on gravitational waves, black holes, the experiment that detected them, and what the detection of gravitational waves mean for the future of science.

Tickets for 12€.
