Ceramic Workshop: Handbuilding with slabs

Duration: One session of 3 hours

Participants: 3- 7

Suited for: Beginners to advanced; no prior experience required

Techniques covered: Handbuilding, making and joining clay slabs, working with slip and leather-hard clay, controlled drying

Clay naturally lends itself to being shaped by hand into organic and curved forms, but it can also be used constructively, assembling complex forms from simple building blocks such as flat slabs. In this workshop you will learn how to make, dry and join such parts. You will then use slabs made and pre-dried in advance to build a useful storage box with lid.

After drying, your pieces will be glazed with one of our studio glazes and fired. You will then be able to pick them up within 4 weeks from the workshop date.

This class will be taught by an experienced staff member of Luftraum Ceramics. It will be held in English and/or German, according to the group needs.

Material and firing costs are included in the fee.

Classes are refundable up to 14 days before the first session. After this, the class is not refundable

Picking up fired pieces: You will be notified by email when your pieces are ready. Please note that we can only keep pieces 2 months after you have been notified.
